TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Forsyth County.

After the winter storms that kept us all bundled up these past couple weeks, I have to say - stepping outside today and feeling the sun on my face felt like a small gift. Driving down Buford Dam Road the other day, I noticed crews already working on the Return Flow Pipeline, a reminder that even when things slow down for weather, the work of building our community keeps moving forward.

SPONSORED BY CARDS OVER CLICKS

Cards Over Clicks helps children disconnect from their devices and reconnect with the real world. Founded by local Navy veteran Dennis Loewer, this 501(c)(3) non-profit uses the excitement of card collecting to develop critical social and learning skills.

From Pokémon and Sports to Disney and Star Wars, every free card packet comes with a grade-specific educational worksheet tailored to Georgia standards. Whether for Pre-K or High School, these packs encourage students to achieve classroom goals and engage with their peers face-to-face.

They help educators and parents turn "social media timeouts" into fun, educational wins. Their mission is simple: inspire kids to put the phone down and learn through family-friendly collecting.

Ready to inspire your students or support the community? They are actively seeking teachers to challenge their classes, educators to help design worksheets, and local business sponsors to keep the packs free.

THE DIGEST

$52.7 million renovation breaks ground at Sharon Springs Park

Forsyth County's beloved Sharon Springs Park is about to get a major facelift. Construction begins Monday, February 9 on a large-scale renovation that will transform the southeast Forsyth County park with eight new pickleball courts, eight tennis courts, an all-inclusive playground, a 4,500-square-foot community building, and 1.75 miles of paved trails. The $52.7 million project, funded through SPLOST and impact fees, also includes upgrades to the adjacent Sexton Hall Senior Services center. The park will be closed during construction, with an expected reopening in early 2028.

Return Flow Pipeline construction begins at Sanders and Buford Dam intersection

Forsyth County drivers near Lake Lanier should prepare for lane closures starting Tuesday, February 10 at the intersection of Sanders Road and Buford Dam Road. Crews will install an undercrossing and 36-inch pipeline as part of the county's Return Flow System, which will convey highly treated water from the Fowler Water Reclamation Facility back to Lake Lanier. Expect delays between 8 AM and 4 PM on weekdays through the end of the month. The project is a key step in Forsyth County's long-term water management strategy.

Forsyth County and Georgia Tech partner on water infrastructure innovation

Students across Forsyth County returned to in-person learning on Tuesday, February 3 after weather-related closures caused by Winter Storm Gianna. The storm brought two to four inches of snow and icy road conditions that shuttered schools and county facilities for multiple days in late January and early February. All Forsyth County Schools are now operating on normal schedules. The district will also host its annual Certified Educator Job Fair at Denmark High School this Saturday, February 7 from 8 AM to 11:30 AM.
