Whole Foods Takes Another Step Toward Opening, A Thousand Helping Hands for Lake Lanier, and Raiders Swing Their Way Into School History. Local Forsyth County News.

Good morning, Forsyth County,
Some hurricane seasons feel like one storm after another, so this year’s quieter stretch has been a welcome relief. Now, though, Tropical Storm Isaias is strengthening in the Gulf and is expected to become a hurricane as it approaches the northern Gulf Coast, with Alabama and the Florida Panhandle among the areas preparing for possible impacts.
The forecast could still shift, but rain will probably reach our area this weekend. Take a few minutes to check your flashlights, charge your devices, and make sure you have water and a few essentials handy in case the power goes out. Hopefully, those flashlights stay in the drawer, but having them ready is one less thing to worry about.
As you make weekend plans, remember that some of the events below could be postponed or canceled because of the weather. Check with organizers before heading out.

Silver has more than doubled gold's return since March 2020, even after a 53% correction from its January peak.
Our research team sees a familiar pattern. Silver's returns more than doubled gold's from 1974 to 1987. After the financial crisis, silver beat gold five-fold in three years.
The reason is size. In 2025, investors put about $15.6 billion into physical silver and silver ETFs, against $111.2 billion for gold. Small inflows move silver hard.
Silver is also in its sixth straight annual supply deficit. The Ultimate Silver Playbook explains what the team expects next. It's free.
Forsyth County’s first Whole Foods Market is moving forward with new approvals from the county’s planning department as construction continues along Ronald Reagan Boulevard. The store will anchor Forsyth Town Center, Fuqua Development’s project at Peachtree Parkway, across from The Collection at Forsyth. Recent permit milestones include completion of the building’s shell inspections and approval of two exterior wall signs. Those steps help explain the progress residents are seeing at the site as the grocery store takes shape. Once open, the location will give Forsyth shoppers another local grocery option and bring a major anchor to a corner filling with restaurants, shops, and services.
Nearly 1,000 volunteers registered for this year’s Shore Sweep, bringing neighbors, businesses, and boating groups together to tackle the debris accumulating around Lake Lanier. Crews hauled away discarded dock floats, trash, and other bulky material, with commercial operators supplying barges, loaders, and trucks to handle the heavy lifting. The effort extended beyond the main cleanup day: designated drop-off sites accepted debris for two weeks beforehand, helping more people contribute. The Lake Lanier Association expects the final debris tally to take several weeks, but the turnout already shows the reach of this annual volunteer effort. For Forsyth residents who fish, boat, or spend weekends along the shoreline, that work helps care for a lake woven into everyday local life.
North Forsyth’s softball team gave the home crowd a win and a place in the school record book on October 6. The Raiders beat North Hall 12–4 while establishing a new program record for home runs in a single season. Eleanor Sneddon contributed a home run during the matchup, adding to the power that has defined this year’s lineup. The victory also gave North a quick turnaround after a 7–4 loss at River Ridge the previous day. As the regular season winds down, the milestone gives players and families something lasting to celebrate: this Raiders team has cleared the fences more often than any before it.
