Ga. 400 Drivers Are Getting a New Route at McGinnis Ferry, New Tech Leader Coming to Forsyth County Schools, and A Fun Assortment of Events Happening This Weekend. Local Forsyth County News.
Good morning, Forsyth County.
Technically, summer is still a few weeks away on the calendar, but Forsyth County seems to have gone ahead and started without asking permission. School is out, and the days already feel longer. The local calendar is sliding into full summer mode too, with plenty of events, programs, and activities happening around Forsyth County. You will see many of them below in today’s Flyer.
Around my house, the signs are already here. There are popsicle stains on the back deck. Wet swim towels have found their way into the laundry. Summer may not be official yet, but it has definitely taken over the routine.
The weather is also doing its part, especially after those dry stretches earlier this spring. Now it looks like Forsyth County may be getting rain, more rain, and then a little extra rain just to make the point. Keep an umbrella handy, check the forecast before you head out, and if you have kids or grandkids to entertain, now is the time to get them signed up for a few summer activities while spots are still open.

How High Are Art Prices Today? The Latest from Spring Auctions…
$85,800,000 for a Rothko
$98,385,000 for ANOTHER Rothko
$107,585,000 for a Brancusi sculpture
$181,200,000 for a Pollock
Sounds crazy, but those masterpieces were once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for the ultra-rich buyers. Postwar contemporary art’s scarcity is largely what’s driven appreciation that’s comparable to even the S&P over the last thirty years.*
Obviously, art investing is out of reach for most people.
But since 2017, Masterworks has taken a data-driven approach to investing in art, making it accessible to individual investors.
Masterworks members can invest in shares of artwork by Rothko, Basquiat, Warhol, and others. When a piece sells, they get a share of the proceeds.
Over $1.2 billion has been deployed across over 500+ artworks. And 29 exits to-date have delivered net annualized returns like 16.5%, 17.6% and 17.8% on pieces held longer than a year, not including those unsold.

Drivers in south Forsyth County will soon have a new way on and off Ga. 400. The long-planned interchange at McGinnis Ferry Road is expected to open in mid-June, as long as weather does not slow the final stretch of work. Once open, the project will change how traffic moves through one of the busier corridors on the south end of the county. Instead of the current overpass, the area will have a full diamond interchange, giving drivers direct access between McGinnis Ferry Road and Ga. 400. The work also adds auxiliary lanes near Windward Parkway and McFarland Parkway to help traffic merge and move more smoothly. Crews will still have some remaining work after the interchange opens, with final completion expected later this summer or early fall.
A Forsyth County company has been chosen for a federal defense contract tied to U.S. Air Force weapons testing. Blane International Group Inc. is one of three vendors selected by the Air Force Test Center at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida for a contract with a shared ceiling of nearly $50 million. The companies will compete for future task orders to provide mobile targets, which are used on military ranges during live-fire testing. The contract runs through May 2031 and adds another major federal award to Blane’s recent history. The Forsyth-based defense contractor has also been included in large weapons and ammunition contracts connected to U.S. Special Operations Command and Army Contracting Command in recent years. While the company operates on a much smaller local footprint than many major defense firms, its federal contracting work has placed it in competition for sizable military procurement projects.
Forsyth County Schools has named Christopher Davis as its next Director of Technology Services. Davis will begin the role on July 1, replacing Tim Flemming, who is retiring. He comes to Forsyth County after serving with Henry County Schools, where he led a 75-person information technology team and helped manage a districtwide network of about 70,000 devices used by students and staff. His background includes work in cybersecurity, technology operations, network infrastructure, and large-scale school system support. Before joining Henry County Schools in 2009, Davis worked with Deloitte Consulting and later served in technology leadership roles for The Church of The Apostles and Leading The Way. Davis holds a Bachelor of Science in Business with a specialization in IT Management from Western Governors University.
