It is still August, which feels a little early to start talking about winter. Apparently, the Pacific Ocean did not get the memo. El Niño is already here, and NOAA says there is now a greater than 90% chance it becomes very strong this fall and winter.

If you have heard “El Niño” 10,000 times without ever really knowing what it means, the simple version is this: unusually warm water in the tropical Pacific can shift the jet stream and change weather patterns thousands of miles away.

For Georgia, that usually means a wetter winter and a more active storm track. Past strong El Niños give us an idea of what that can look like. Atlanta saw more than 25 inches of rain during the winter of 2015-16. The 1982-83 El Niño helped produce a significant March snowstorm, while the powerful 1997-98 event was followed by major flooding and severe weather across Georgia.

Before everybody clears Kroger of milk and bread, though, none of this guarantees snow in Forsyth County. More storms simply mean more opportunities. We still need cold air to arrive at exactly the right time. So we could get snow. We could get ice. We could get a whole lot of 38-degree rain. And because this is Georgia, we may somehow get all three in the same week.

Smart-Vehicle Technology Manufacturer Opens Forsyth County Hub

Forsyth County has added a new player to its advanced-manufacturing sector with the opening of YFORE North America’s regional headquarters and production facility near McGinnis Ferry Road. The roughly 62,000-square-foot operation will produce smart automotive mirrors and digital-key systems for vehicle manufacturers. It also brings research, procurement, sales and delivery functions together under one roof, giving the company a base for serving customers throughout North America. Production is beginning with a small workforce and is expected to expand as demand grows. At full capacity, the facility is designed to produce approximately 2 million digital mirrors and as many as 10 million digital keys annually. YFORE’s arrival strengthens Forsyth County’s place in Georgia’s growing automotive supply chain while adding another technology-focused manufacturer to the local business community.

Northside Forsyth Recognized for Lifesaving Heart Care

Northside Hospital Forsyth has earned two American Heart Association honors for its treatment of heart attacks and broader cardiovascular care. The hospital received the Mission: Lifeline Regional STEMI Recognition Award, which recognizes coordinated, evidence-based treatment for patients experiencing the most severe form of heart attack. Rapid diagnosis and intervention are particularly important in these cases because a blocked coronary artery can quickly cause permanent heart damage. Northside Forsyth also received the association’s 2026 Commitment to Quality Award for its work through the Get With The Guidelines program. The initiative focuses on improving outcomes across cardiovascular and stroke services through current treatment standards. The recognition reflects collaboration among physicians, nurses, emergency medical teams and other clinical staff. Northside hospitals in Atlanta, Cherokee and Gwinnett received the same honors.

Hollywood Feed’s Record-Setting Auction Benefits Forsyth County’s Homeless Pets

The Humane Society of Forsyth County will share in the proceeds from Hollywood Feed’s most successful Silent Auction for Rescues to date. The 2026 fundraiser generated $16,835, exceeding the $12,000 collected in 2025 and nearly doubling the 2024 total. Ninety-five percent of the proceeds will be divided evenly among four animal-welfare organizations, with the remaining amount covering payment and auction-platform fees. Along with the Forsyth County shelter, beneficiaries include Sweet Home Animal Rescue in Alabama, McKamey Animal Center in Tennessee and Dallas Dog Rescue.Rehab.Reform. in Texas. The money will help provide food, veterinary treatment, emergency care, shelter and other necessities for animals awaiting adoption. Auction offerings included custom pet artwork, local experiences, gift baskets, premium food, toys and special packages donated by Hollywood Feed’s vendor partners.
